GSL Education are currently recruiting for a Primary SEN Support TA (TA) to work in a primary school in Chesterfield. The ideal candidate will be confident in working with students who require additional support due to Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Speech and Language Difficulties, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Role Overview:

As a Primary Special Education Needs TA, you will play an important part in supporting children with a range of special educational needs. Working closely with teaching staff, SEND professionals, and families, you will help students access learning, build confidence, and develop social and emotional skills. Your role will involve both classroom-based support and one-to-one or small group work, ensuring each child feels safe, understood, and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Primary SEN TA Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide targeted support to students with a range of special educational needs both within lessons and during transitions.
  • Support students in maintaining focus, managing their emotions, and fully participating in classroom activities.
  • Collaborate with the class teacher to assist in the planning and delivery of differentiated lessons and adapted learning materials.
  • Encourage the development of communication skills, independence, and positive peer interactions.
  • Implement and adhere to individualised learning plans and behaviour support strategies as advised by the SENCO and school staff.
  • Accurately record and monitor pupil progress, providing regular updates to the teaching and support team to inform planning and review processes.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with SEN, ideally in a primary school or care setting is desirable.
  • Knowledge of key SEN areas such as Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and language and communication needs.
  • A full UK driving licence is essential for this role.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to follow instructions and work independently.
  • A calm, supportive approach to behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply through GSL Education.
