SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) – Dibden Purlieu, Hampshire

GSL Education are currently seeking a full-time SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive Secondary School in Dibden Purlieu, from September 2025. This role is ideal for individuals with experience in youth work, social work, or pastoral care who are eager to make a positive impact in a school environment.

This is a term-time-only position, working Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm, and provides a stable, fulfilling opportunity to support students who need it most.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students with SEMH needs to help them access learning and achieve personal progress.
  • Build trusting, respectful relationships with students, acting as a positive role model.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to implement strategies that support emotional regulation and behaviour.
  • Encourage student engagement through therapeutic and structured routines.
  • Support the social development of students, promoting confidence, independence, and well-being.
  • Monitor behaviour and progress, reporting any concerns to relevant staff.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs is highly desirable.
  • Transferable experience from roles in youth work, social work, mentoring, or similar pastoral settings will be considered.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage challenging behaviours with empathy and patience.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • The ability to remain calm, composed, and professional in high-pressure situations.
  • A team player who is adaptable and ready to contribute to a positive school ethos.
  • Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
