Psychology Graduate
SEMH Support Role
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: September 2025
Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only
Salary: £85 – £105 per day (depending on experience)
Are you a recent Psychology graduate passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? GSL Education is currently seeking empathetic, motivated individuals to join a specialist setting in York from September 2025. This full-time role is ideal for graduates looking to gain practical, hands-on experience in a school environment that supports vulnerable and at-risk students.
About the School Setting:
You’ll be working in a supportive alternative provision that caters to students aged 5–16 who face barriers to learning due to SEMH challenges, trauma, or unmet additional needs. The setting offers a personalised, nurturing approach with a strong emphasis on emotional wellbeing, relationships, and restorative practice. Staff work closely as a team to help students re-engage with education, build self-confidence, and develop coping strategies for life beyond the classroom.
What You’ll Be Doing as a Psychology Graduate:
- Supporting students on a 1:1 and small group basis, focusing on emotional regulation, engagement, and positive behaviour.
- Assisting with the delivery of tailored lessons and therapeutic interventions alongside experienced educators and pastoral teams.
- Using your understanding of psychology to support students with anxiety, low self-esteem, ADHD, autism, and trauma-related behaviours.
- Helping to implement behaviour support strategies and contributing to a calm, consistent, and emotionally secure environment.
- Developing valuable skills in behaviour management, safeguarding, and trauma-informed practice.
Ideal for Graduates Who:
- Hold a degree in Psychology or a related subject.
- Have a genuine interest in child and adolescent mental health, SEND, or educational psychology.
- Are considering a future career in teaching, therapy, social work, or youth support.
- Are resilient, compassionate, and ready to make a meaningful impact in young lives.
- Have experience working with children or young people (desirable but not essential).
