Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
Location: Rotherham
Salary: £100 – £130 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: September 2025
Contract Type: Day-to-Day / Long-Term; Full-Time / Part-Time

GSL Education are currently seeking skilled Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) to work in schools across Rotherham. This is a fantastic opportunity for professionals who can take on additional responsibilities and provide high-quality support across a range of year groups and subjects.
About the Role:
As an HLTA, you will be expected to support teaching staff in delivering the curriculum, work with small groups or individual pupils, and on occasion, lead lessons under the guidance of a teacher. You’ll play a key role in promoting pupil progress, behaviour, and well-being while helping to maintain a productive learning environment.
Higher Level Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Lead small group learning sessions or whole-class cover lessons when required
- Support the planning and delivery of high-quality lessons across the curriculum
- Assist with marking and assessing pupil work under teacher guidance
- Provide 1:1 and small group interventions for pupils needing additional support
- Promote positive behaviour and help manage classroom routines
- Liaise with teachers, parents, and other professionals to support pupil learning
- Use data and observation to support progress tracking and reporting
- Help prepare classroom resources and learning materials
- Participate in staff meetings and contribute to the wider school life
- Uphold school policies and promote a culture of inclusion and respect
Candidate Requirements for an HLTA:
- Hold a recognised HLTA qualification or equivalent experience
- Previous experience working in a school setting as an HLTA
- Confident leading lessons and managing a classroom in the teacher’s absence
- Strong understanding of the national curriculum and effective teaching strategies
- Excellent communication, organisation, and teamwork skills
- A flexible, calm, and positive approach to supporting learning
- Have an updated CV and an Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
