SEN Primary Teaching Assistant
Location: Rotherham
Salary: £86 – £100 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: September 2025
Contract Type: Day-to-Day / Long-Term; Full-Time / Part-Time

GSL Education are currently seeking a committed and enthusiastic SEN Primary Teaching Assistant to support pupils in primary schools across Rotherham. As an SEN Primary Teaching Assistant (Primary SEN TA), you will work closely with class teachers and SENCOs to support children with additional needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges. Your role will involve providing 1:1 and small group support, delivering targeted interventions, and helping to create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.

Responsibilities of SEN TA - Primary:

  • Provide tailored support to pupils with a range of SEN across the primary age groups
  • Assist in delivering structured learning activities and personalised interventions
  • Support pupils with their emotional and social development throughout the school day
  • Collaborate with class teachers and SENCOs to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCP strategies
  • Encourage and support communication, confidence, and independence in learners
  • Help manage challenging behaviour in a calm and supportive manner
  • Record observations and contribute to assessments and progress reports
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, parents, and the wider school team
  • Promote an inclusive and respectful classroom environment
  • Ensure the well-being, safety, and safeguarding of all pupils

Primary SEN Teaching Assistant Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with children with SEN in a primary school setting as a Primary SEN TA,
  • Knowledge of SEN strategies and understanding of common needs such as ASD, ADHD, SEMH
  • Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent) is desirable but not mandatory
  • A degree in Psychology, SEND, Counselling or a similar field is desirable but not mandatory
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to working with children
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Have an updated CV and an Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
