Learning Support Practitioner
Salary: £83 - £100 per day
Start Date: September 2025
Location: York, North Yorkshire
GSL Education’s North Yorkshire branch is currently recruiting for outstanding Learning Support Practitioner for an Alternative Provision that supports children and young people aged 5–16 who face barriers to learning in mainstream education in York,starting in September 2025.

Learning Support Practitioner Requirements:
- A relevant qualification in education, youth work, or a related field is desirable. Experience and a passion for working with students are highly valued.
- Experience of working with children and young people with additional needs.
- Proven ability to manage and improve student behaviour, with experience in implementing positive behaviour support strategies.
- A genuine interest in the issues faced by students with SEN, and the ability to show empathy, patience, and understanding in supporting their needs.
- Hold a Child Only DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one with GSL Education.
Learning Support Practitioner Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with additional needs.
- Support students to access learning across a range of curriculum areas.
- Assist in managing behaviour.
- Promote engagement, attendance, and motivation.
- Help create a safe and structured learning environment.
- Liaise with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals.
- Participate in training and development activities relevant to the role.
