Youth Worker
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: September 2025
Salary: £83 - £100 per day

GSL Education are seeking dedicated and compassionate Youth Worker to work at an Alternative Provision that supports students with a wide range of Special Educational Needs in York, North Yorkshire. As a Youth Worker, you will play a crucial role in providing support, guidance, and encouragement to students with diverse learning needs.

Youth Worker Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a Youth Worker or in a similar role, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Understanding of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and experience working with students with diverse learning needs such as Autism, ADHD and SEMH.
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to support the well-being and development of young people.
  • Knowledge of behavior management techniques and strategies for supporting students with SEN, such as Team Teach, MAPPA or NAPPI. Level 2 Team Teach Training can be provided throughout the summer holidays.
  • Relevant qualifications in youth work, social work, education, or a related field.
  • Have an Enhanced Child Only DBS registered to the update service, or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education

Youth Worker Responsibilities:

  • Assisting students in on a 1:1 and small group basis, delivering pre-planned interventions.
  • Planning and facilitating group activities and workshops that promote social skills, emotional well-being, and independence.
  • Working in partnership with the SENCO to work towards achieving EHCP outcomes.
  • Offering emotional support and guidance to students experiencing difficulties or distress.
  • Maintaining regular communication with parents or guardians, providing updates on student progress, and involving them in decision-making processes.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss student progress and develop individualised support plans.
