Job Title: 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Non-Verbal Pupil
Location: Brighton
Salary:
 £90 - £110 per day (Depending on experience)

Are you a calm, caring, and resilient individual looking to make a meaningful difference in a young learner’s life? GSL Education are currently in search of a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a non-verbal pupil in a welcoming school located in Brighton.

As a 1:1 SEN TA, you will work closely with a non-verbal pupil, providing dedicated support throughout the school day. Your role will focus on helping the pupil access learning, develop communication skills, and build trust and confidence.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to a non-verbal pupil, adapting communication strategies to suit their needs.
  • Implement and support personalised learning plans in collaboration with the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Use tools such as PECS, Makaton, visual timetables, or communication aids (training can be provided).
  • Create a calm, nurturing environment to support emotional regulation and learning.
  • Record observations and feedback to track the pupil’s development.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with special educational needs (SEN), ideally non-verbal.
  • Strong communication skills, patience, and a positive, adaptable attitude.
  • Understanding of alternative communication methods is highly desirable.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with complex needs.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
