Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 per hour (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are seeking a compassionate and reliable Special Education Needs Support Worker to join a welcoming school in Wareham. This is a special chance to support children with additional needs and help them succeed in their own way. In this role, you’ll work closely with caring staff who will support you along the way.
About the School: The school is an education setting based for 16 – 25+ years old with Special Educational Needs. It is based on 350 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside. The school operate enterprise activities and vocational teaching methods to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people and adults with SEN in Dorset and the local area. The school focuses on vocations like horticulture, agriculture, equine skills and animal care as well as many more, to enrich the lives and education of its pupils.
Responsibilities:
- Support students aged 16 to 25+ with special educational needs in engaging with vocational and enterprise activities such as horticulture, agriculture, equine skills, and animal care.
- Assist learners in developing practical skills, building confidence, and promoting independence through tailored one-to-one or group support.
- Collaborate with teaching staff to implement individual education plans and adapt activities to meet diverse learning needs.
- Ensure the safe use and maintenance of outdoor facilities and equipment, creating a secure and supportive learning environment.
- Monitor and report on student progress, communicating effectively with the wider team to support successful transitions to employment or further education.
Requirements:
- Experience supporting students with moderate to severe learning difficulties, demonstrating knowledge of their specific educational and developmental needs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with students, teaching staff, therapists, and families in a collaborative setting.
- Empathy, patience, and a nurturing attitude to create a supportive and inclusive environment that fosters student growth and independence.
- Ability and willingness to assist in specialised settings, including hydrotherapy pools, multi-sensory rooms, and therapy spaces, ensuring student safety and participation.
- Flexibility and a teamwork mindset, with the capability to contribute to multi-disciplinary planning and adapt support strategies to meet individual student needs.
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the update service or willingness to apply.
