Job Title: Part-Time Maths and English Functional Skills Teacher
Location: Surrey
Salary: £25 – £40 per hour (dependent on experience)
Hours: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM (flexible), Monday to Friday
Contract Type: Long-term, ongoing
Start Date: ASAP

GSL Education is proud to be working with an Alternative Provision in Surrey, committed to transforming the lives of young people aged 11–16 who face barriers to mainstream education, including SEMH, ADHD, and ASC. The school combines academic support with sport and creative engagement to promote holistic development.
We are currently recruiting for a Part-Time Functional Skills Teacher who can confidently deliver Maths and English to small groups of students (8–10 pupils per class), with support from dedicated Teaching Assistants. This role requires strong behaviour management, flexibility, and a compassionate yet firm approach to teaching.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality Functional Skills lessons in Maths and English.
- Lead small group interventions tailored to the needs of individual learners.
- Maintain a calm and structured classroom environment, managing challenging behaviours positively and proactively.
- Collaborate with support staff to ensure lessons are accessible and engaging.
- Track student progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
- Play a key role in students’ academic, emotional, and social development.
Candidate Requirements:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Proven experience teaching Functional Skills in Maths and English.
- Prior experience working in an SEN or alternative provision setting is preferred.
- Strong classroom and behaviour management skills are essential.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable students to succeed.
- An enhanced DBS registered on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
