Looking for a Teaching Assistant with BSL experience in Bournemouth!

Job Title: BSL Teaching Assistant
Location: Bournemouth
Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 Per Hour 
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Start Date: Immediate or September

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant with a strong grasp of British Sign Language (BSL)? GSL Education are working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive school in Bournemouth to appoint a Teaching Assistant with BSL experience.

About the Role:

This role is perfect for a confident Teaching Assistant skilled in delivering communication through BSL and adapting educational materials to meet individual pupil needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 sign language support for a pupil within the classroom
  • Interpret spoken English into BSL to ensure full access to the curriculum
  • Collaborate with the class teacher to adapt learning materials and visual aids
  • Support the pupil during teaching input and classroom activities
  • Foster an inclusive and engaging learning environment
  • Track and monitor the pupil's engagement and communication development

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Hold a recognised British Sign Language qualification (minimum Level 2 preferred) or have substantial experience using BSL in an educational or support setting
  • Be patient, compassionate, and proactive
  • Prior experience supporting children, especially in educational or SEN settings
  • Confident in building strong relationships with pupils and staff
  • Experience with Makaton or other augmentative communication methods is beneficial but not essential
