Position: Full-time Cover Supervisor (Secondary School)
GSL Education are working in partnership with a welcoming secondary school in Fareham to recruit a dedicated Cover Supervisor (CS) for a full-time position starting this September. This role is an excellent opportunity for aspiring teachers, recent graduates, or experienced support staff looking to gain valuable experience leading a classroom.
About the Role:
As a Cover Supervisor, you will provide short-term classroom supervision during the absence of teaching staff. Your responsibilities will include delivering pre-planned lessons, supporting students to remain focused on their work, and managing classroom behaviour in line with school policies.
You will be covering a variety of subjects and working with different year groups across Key Stages 3 and 4, ensuring consistency in students’ learning. Cover may include staff absence, PPA time, or ECT release.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and deliver pre-prepared lessons across a broad curriculum.
- Ensure pupils remain on task and engaged in learning.
- Uphold behaviour expectations and manage disruptions effectively.
- Provide basic academic support where required and ensure learning continues in the teacher’s absence.
- Collect completed work and pass on feedback to the appropriate staff.
- Adhere to the school’s safeguarding and pastoral policies.
The Ideal Candidate will have:
- Previous experience in a secondary school setting or with young people is desirable.
- Confident, proactive, and able to take charge of a classroom environment.
- Ability to manage behaviour and maintain engagement with pupils of varying abilities.
- Flexible and capable of working across a range of subjects and year groups.
- A genuine passion for education and supporting student achievement.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education.
