SEN Teaching Assistant – Secondary School – Dibden Purlieu, Hampshire

GSL Education are currently seeking a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) for a welcoming secondary school in Dibden Purlieu, starting in September 2025. This role is based in the school’s resource base, where students with EHCPs—primarily those with Autism, Learning Difficulties, and Speech and Language challenges—receive focused and tailored support to help them thrive academically and socially.
Applicants from the care sector with transferable skills in supporting children or young people with SEN or physical disabilities are encouraged to apply. The school offers opportunities for career development, including progression through the pay grades as experience grows.
Responsibilities of SEN TA:
- Provide one-to-one or small group support to students with a range of special educational needs
- Assist students in accessing learning and developing independence within a structured environment
- Implement strategies outlined in EHCPs in collaboration with the SEN team and class teachers
- Support classroom activities both within the resource base and the wider school setting
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and nurturing atmosphere for students
- Keep accurate records and provide feedback to support students’ progress
SEN Teaching Assistant Qualifications:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN, ideally in a school or care setting
- A degree in Psychology, Counselling, Education or similar.
- CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or childcare
- Calm, adaptable, and nurturing approach to working with students with additional needs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to learn and undertake relevant training
- Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one
