Are You a Passionate Special Education Needs (SEN) Teacher Ready to Make a Difference?
GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teacher to join a supportive SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Saltdean. This position is perfect for a teacher who is enthusiastic about dealing with kids who have complex emotional and behavioural issues and require additional assistance to succeed in their learning journey.
You will be part of a skilled team providing tailored teaching to students with SEMH needs and may also support those with co-occurring SEND, such as Autism (ASC), ADHD, or speech and language difficulties. Your role will focus on creating a safe, structured, and engaging environment that encourages personal growth and academic progress.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver differentiated lessons that meet the individual needs of students with SEMH and associated SEND.
- Create a nurturing and inclusive classroom where all learners feel safe, respected, and supported.
- Use positive behaviour support strategies to help students regulate their emotions and improve engagement.
- Monitor and assess student progress, adapting teaching approaches as needed in line with EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) targets.
- Work closely with support staff, the SENCO, and outside professionals to provide coordinated support.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students, helping them build confidence and resilience.
Candidate Requirements:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Experience working in an SEMH,SEN, or alternative provision setting is highly desirable.
- A strong understanding of trauma-informed practice, emotion coaching, and positive behaviour management.
- Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet a range of needs, including Autism, ADHD, and speech and language challenges.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply through GSL Education.
If you are an empathetic and committed SEN Teacher ready to make a difference in an SEMH school, we welcome your application.
Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks; including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
