Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant (TA)
Location: Hailsham
Salary: £90-£100 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

GSL Education are seeking a compassionate and skilled SEN Teaching Assistant to work in a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school in Hailsham. This role offers the opportunity to support children and young people who experience social, emotional, and behavioural challenges, helping them to engage positively with their learning and develop vital coping strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Give one-to-one support to students with Special Education Needs (SEN) to help them feel calm, safe, and ready to learn.
  • Support students who may also have Autism (ASC), ADHD, or speech and language difficulties, using clear routines and strategies that meet their needs.
  • Help follow and review each student’s Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) by working closely with teachers and the SENCO.
  • Encourage good behaviour and help students manage their feelings through positive behaviour support and gentle guidance.
  • Support students in building confidence, making friends, and feeling included in school life.
  • Work as part of a team to give students the best support possible and share updates on how they are doing.
  • Keep simple notes on each student’s learning, behaviour, and progress, following school rules.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant (TA) is desirable.
  • Kind, patient, and able to stay calm when students are upset or struggling.
  • Able to follow plans, listen well, and work as part of a supportive team.
  • A good understanding of how to help students who find it hard to manage their emotions or focus in class.
  • Willing to learn new skills and attend training related to special needs education.
  • Must have an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply through GSL Education.
