Job description
SEMH Support Assistant (Specialist Secondary School – Havant)
Hourly Rate: £13.68 – £14.88
Start: Immediate or September 2025
A specialist school in Havant, supporting boys aged 11–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, is seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated staff team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a therapeutic, student-centred environment where every child is supported to overcome emotional and behavioural barriers to learning.
In this role, you’ll be an essential part of a nurturing team that helps deliver a well-rounded curriculum tailored to each student’s needs. The young people you’ll support often face challenges related to ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, and other learning differences, and many have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). You’ll play a hands-on role in helping them build confidence, resilience, and academic progress.
You will assist in developing engaging activities, promote emotional regulation, and model positive behaviour. If you’re someone who thrives in a purposeful, high-impact role, we’d love to hear from you.
Ideal Candidates Will Be:
- Empathetic, resilient, and passionate about inclusive education
- Aware of the effects of trauma and confident using a therapeutic approach
- Calm under pressure and quick to adapt in challenging situations
- A good communicator who values teamwork
- Experienced in supporting young people with SEMH or additional needs (preferred but not essential)
- Driven to help young people develop essential life skills and a positive sense of self
What the School Offers:
- A warm, collaborative staff culture with strong support systems
- Continuous professional development, including SEN and therapeutic training
- A trauma-informed school ethos with clear structures and emotional support
- A focus on staff wellbeing and personal development
