Job description

GSL Education is seeking a compassionate, patient, and proactive Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to work on a 1:1 basis with a primary-aged pupil with Special Educational Needs (SEN). This full-time position is due to start in September and will be based in a supportive and inclusive primary school in Chelmsford.

The successful candidate will play a key role in helping the child access the curriculum, manage daily routines, and build confidence and independence within a nurturing learning environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to a specific pupil with SEN on a 1:1 basis throughout the school day

  • Implement strategies outlined in the pupil’s EHCP or individual learning plan

  • Assist the pupil in managing emotions, focus, and transitions during lessons and activities

  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and external specialists to ensure consistent support

  • Record and report on progress, behaviour, and key developments as required

  • Help create a positive, engaging, and safe learning environment for the pupil


Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEN, preferably in a school setting

  • A calm, caring, and adaptable approach

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust with children and staff

  • A genuine passion for supporting children’s learning and emotional well-being

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

  • Relevant training in SEN, autism, ADHD, or emotional regulation (desirable but not essential)
