Great Opportunity for an SEN Tutor - Maths & English

Job Title: SEN Tutor – Functional Skills Level 1 Maths & English
Location: Poole
Hours: 10am – 2pm, 5 days per week
Start Date: ASAP
Rate: £20 - £40 per hour

About the Role:
We are currently working with a well renowned and established SEN School based in Poole. They are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Tutor to deliver Functional Skills Level 1 Maths and English support to learners with special educational needs. This is a part-time position, ideal for someone passionate about making a positive difference in education, particularly for students who require a tailored and supportive approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated sessions in Functional Skills Maths and English (Level 1).
  • Adapt teaching methods to suit individual learning styles and SEN requirements.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing regular feedback and encouragement.
  • Work closely with parents/carers and support staff to ensure a consistent and collaborative learning experience.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with learners with special educational needs (SEN).
  • Strong subject knowledge of Functional Skills English and Maths (up to Level 1).
  • Ability to build strong relationships and rapport with young people with learning difficulties. 
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills.

Desirable:

  • QTS or PGCE desirable but not essential
  • Experience with EHCPs and working one-to-one.
  • Flexibility and a student-centred approach.

  • Have a DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education
