Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)
Location: Braintree
Salary Range: £85 - £115 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Time: September 2025 (or earlier if available)
Contract: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

About the Role / Role Overview

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and the SENCo to provide tailored support to pupils both in and outside the classroom. The role involves working on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, helping to deliver differentiated activities and fostering a positive, engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide targeted support to pupils with EHCPs, both academically and emotionally.
  • Implement individual support strategies following pupils’ specific needs.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and parents to monitor progress and adjust interventions.
  • Assist in creating a structured and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Promote independence, self-confidence, and self-regulation in pupils.
  • Support pupils during transitions, break times, and other unstructured periods.
  • Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and behaviour in line with school policy.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN in a school, care, or youth setting.
  • A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is advantageous, though not essential.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a calm and empathetic approach.
  • Ability to remain patient, consistent, and professional in challenging situations.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to pupil welfare.
  • Candidates from psychology, social care, or youth work backgrounds are also welcome.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
