Cover Supervisor
Location: Portsmouth, Hampshire
Salary: £100 – £140 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: September 2025
Contract Type: Full-time

GSL Education are currently seeking enthusiastic and adaptable individuals to join secondary schools in Portsmouth as Cover Supervisors (CS).

As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for delivering pre-set lessons to classes in the absence of the usual classroom teacher. You’ll maintain order, ensure students remain on task, and provide general support to students during the lesson. This is an excellent opportunity to gain school-based experience or transition from teaching to a more flexible role.
Key Responsibilities of a Cover Supervisor:
- Delivering pre-prepared lessons across various subjects in secondary settings.
- Managing classroom behaviour in line with school policies.
- Ensuring students remain on task and engaged during cover lessons.
- Supporting students’ learning and answering general questions.
- Reporting back to the class teacher or senior leadership on progress and incidents.
- Creating a calm, positive learning environment while maintaining professional boundaries.
Cover Supervisor (CS) Candidate Requirements:
- Previous experience working with secondary-aged pupils as a Cover Supervisor is desirable.
- A degree in Education, psychology or a similar field.
- CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or similar.
- Experienced teachers who are seeking a flexible work life are also encouraged to apply.
- Confidence in leading a classroom and managing student behaviour.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to think on your feet.
- A flexible and proactive approach to working in different school environments.
- A valid, enhanced DBS registered to the update service or willingness to apply for one.
