Be the Extra Pair of Hands and Heart Every Child Needs!

Job Title: 1:1 Teaching Assistant
Location: Christchurch
Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 per hour (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Full-time/Permanent

GSL Education are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic 1:1 Teaching Assistant (TA) to join schools in Christchurch.

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant (One-to-one TA), you’ll become a familiar face and a trusted guide for a child who needs a little extra help to navigate the school day. You won’t just be supporting their learning — you’ll be building a connection that helps them feel safe, understood, and ready to grow. You’ll play a key part in their journey — celebrating small victories, helping them find their voice, and reminding them that mistakes are part of learning. Your presence will help them believe in themselves, even when things feel hard. This is a special role where you’ll make a difference not by doing big things, but by doing small things with great care.

Responsibilities for a 1:1 Teaching Assistant (TA):

  • Provide tailored support to a student on a one-to-one basis within the classroom.
  • Assist with understanding class instructions and encourage engagement in learning.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teachers and support staff.
  • Promote independence while offering support when required.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • Help adapt learning materials and classroom tasks to the student’s ability level.
  • Build a positive and trusting relationship with the student and wider school team.

1:1 Teaching Assistant (TA) Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in one-to-one support such as a 1:1 Teaching Assistant role or similar educational setting, is desirable.
  • A degree in Psychology, Education or a similar field.
  • Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance are preferred.
  • A caring, calm, and supportive attitude.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Understanding of how to support students with varying learning needs.

To thrive in this role, you should:

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from the last two years.
  • Possess an enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.

Why Join GSL Education?

  • Competitive hourly pay reflective of your experience and skills.
  • Long-term opportunities with the potential for permanent placement.
  • Supportive consultants committed to your career success.
  • Access to professional development and training.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection, and successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks, including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service or completing an application for a new check.

As an ethical, independent recruitment agency, GSL Education are committed to providing quality teaching and support staff across the UK.
