Job Title: Mental Health Teaching Assistant (TA)
Location: Lytchett Minster
Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 per hour (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Full-time/Permanent

GSL Education are currently seeking a Mental Health Teaching Assistant for a permanent, full-time position in Lytchett Minster, starting immediately. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with students who may experience anxiety, trauma, depression, or other mental health difficulties, helping them to engage with learning in a nurturing and structured environment.

About the Role:

As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the emotional wellbeing and academic progress of students. You will work both one-to-one and in small groups, supporting students to regulate their emotions, develop coping strategies, and build confidence in their learning journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting students with diagnosed or emerging mental health conditions.
  • Implementing behaviour and wellbeing support plans in coordination with SEN and pastoral staff.
  • Acting as a key worker, offering consistent emotional support and a safe space for students.
  • Helping to create a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Liaising with external mental health professionals when required.
  • Promoting resilience, self-esteem, and positive mental health strategies.

Mental Health Teaching Assistant (TA) Job Requirements:

  • Training or certification in Mental Health First Aid or trauma-informed care is advantageous.
  • Experience working with young people facing a range of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression and emotional regulation challenges.
  • Possess an understanding of mental health challenges and the ability to offer emotional and behavioural support to students.
  • Be proactive, empathetic and able to communicate effectively with students, teachers and parents.
  • Have a patient and compassionate approach, with the ability to adapt your support to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
