Primary Teaching Assistant
Location: Chesterfield
Salary: £96 - £100 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Day-to-Day / Long Term, Full-time / Part-time

GSL Education are seeking a compassionate and proactive Primary Teaching Assistant to work with pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs in Chesterfield. About the Role:

As a Primary Teaching Assistant (Primary TA), you will play a key role in helping students access their learning and develop essential life skills. Working closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams, you will provide tailored support to pupils who may face challenges such as anxiety, low self-esteem, or difficulties in managing emotions and behaviour.

Primary TA Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one or small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and accessible lessons.
  • Promote positive behaviour and help pupils develop coping strategies.
  • Support emotional regulation and social interaction skills.
  • Work with colleagues to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Record and report on pupils’ progress and behaviours.
  • Adapt approaches based on individual needs and guidance from the SENCO or external professionals.
  • Occasionally assist with covering lessons or interventions when required.

Requirements for Teaching Assistant - Primary:

  • Must be a driver and hold a full UK driving licence, have access to a vehicle.
  • Experience supporting children with SEMH or related behavioural needs as a Primary Teaching Assistant in a school setting.
  • CACHE Level 2 or 3, Teaching Assistant qualification, or relevant experience preferred.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and resilience.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one
