Primary Teaching Assistant – Barnsley
Location: Barnsley, South Yorkshire
Salary: £85 – £100 per day
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time

Are you passionate about supporting young learners and helping them thrive in a primary school environment? GSL Education is currently recruiting enthusiastic and caring Primary Teaching Assistants to work in schools across Barnsley. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in the academic and social development of pupils in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to ensure pupils remain engaged and make progress.

  • Assist the class teacher in delivering fun, engaging, and differentiated lessons.

  • Support pupils with special educational needs (SEN), behavioural challenges, or additional learning needs.

  • Help foster a positive, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment.

  • Encourage pupil confidence, independence, and participation in classroom activities.

  • Supervise children during playtimes, lunchtimes, and other school-based activities.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with primary-aged children (e.g., in schools, tutoring, or childcare settings).

  • A good understanding of SEN, Autism, ADHD, and behaviour management techniques is desirable.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • A patient, flexible, and proactive approach to supporting learning.

  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.

  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
