Job Title: Learning Support Assistant (LSA)
Location: Southampton, Hampshire
Salary: £12.82 per hour
Start Date: Immediate or September 2025
Contract: Full-time

GSL Education are delighted to offer a full-time opportunity for a proactive and nurturing Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a vibrant mainstream secondary school in Southampton.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to support students across various subjects and year groups, with a particular focus on learners who require additional academic or emotional guidance. This is a vital role that helps build pupils’ confidence, fosters independence, and ensures every student receives the support they need to succeed in a mainstream classroom setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to individual students and small groups to ensure equal access to the curriculum.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to adapt lesson materials and learning strategies to suit pupils’ needs.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and help students develop essential social and organisational skills.
  • Assist in monitoring student progress and maintaining accurate support records.
  • Support students with varying needs, including those with mild learning difficulties, EAL (English as an Additional Language), or SEMH challenges.
  • Act as a mentor and role model for students, promoting confidence and resilience.
  • Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and always ensure student welfare.

Job Requirements of the Learning Support Assistant:

  • Students who are seeking to gain experience in education setting are encouraged to apply.

  • Flexible, patient, and enthusiastic approach to supporting learning and wellbeing.
  • Willingness to learn and undertake relevant training.
  • A degree, or current enrolment in university-level study (especially in Education, Psychology, or related fields), is welcome.
  • Strong commitment to inclusion and helping all students achieve their best.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
