Job Title: School Health Care Support Worker

Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 per hour (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are welcoming applications for a School Health Care Support Worker to join a dedicated specialist SEN school in Portland. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a child’s life from day one.

Role Overview:

As a School Health Care Support Worker, you will provide essential medical and pastoral care to pupils with complex health conditions and additional learning needs. You’ll support students with a range of diagnoses including Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), and other medical conditions that require hands-on personal care and therapeutic support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver personal care, including toileting, feeding, and hygiene support.
  • Administer or assist with medication and feeding routines under supervision.
  • Monitor students’ physical and emotional wellbeing throughout the day.
  • Provide classroom support during structured learning and therapeutic activities.
  • Maintain clear documentation and contribute to individual care plans.
  • Liaise with teachers, therapists, nurses, and families to provide consistent support.
  • Uphold safeguarding policies and maintain a safe environment for all learners.

Job Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a care, health, or SEN school setting is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of working with children or young people with medical or complex needs.
  • Comfortable delivering intimate care and undertaking manual handling duties.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and health & safety procedures.
  • Kind-hearted, calm, and reliable, with a team-focused mindset.
  • Ability to work under direction and also show initiative when needed.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
