GSL Education are currently recruiting for a School Health Care Assistant to join a well-regarded SEN school in Bournemouth, offering essential medical and pastoral care to students with complex needs.
About the Role
As a School Health Care Assistant, you will work as part of a supportive team providing daily health care, emotional support, and basic medical assistance to pupils across a school day. The setting caters to children and young people with a range of special educational needs, including medical conditions, physical disabilities, and learning difficulties.
Your will:
- Assist pupils with personal care, including toileting, feeding, dressing, and mobility support.
- Provide medical assistance in accordance with healthcare plans (e.g. administering medication, tube feeding, epilepsy care).
- Work closely with school nurses, SEN staff, and therapists to implement health and care plans.
- Respond promptly to medical incidents, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all pupils.
- Maintain accurate records of care provided and report health concerns to the appropriate team members.
- Foster a nurturing, calm, and safe environment that promotes pupil independence and dignity.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience working as a Health Care Assistant, Support Worker, or within a medical or SEN environment is essential.
- Relevant care or medical qualifications (e.g. NVQ in Health and Social Care, Care Certificate) are highly desirable.
- Experience supporting children or young people with medical and physical needs in a school or care setting.
- Comfortable providing personal and intimate care with dignity and respect.
- A calm, caring, and patient nature, with excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding and first aid procedures.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
