Full-time Learning Support Assistant – Portsmouth, Hampshire

A secondary school in Portsmouth, is seeking a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join their team as soon as possible or from September 2025, depending on the successful candidate’s availability. This is a full-time role offering an annual salary between £17,500 to £19,500, depending on experience and qualifications. You will have the chance to make a real difference by supporting students with additional needs and helping them succeed. The school values a positive and inclusive approach, creating a supportive environment for both staff and students.

About the Role:
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers to provide individual and small group support to students. You will assist in delivering interventions, helping students to access the curriculum, and may work with those who have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). This role requires a caring and adaptable approach, as you may be supporting students across various subjects and year groups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to students in and out of the classroom, including one-to-one and small group interventions.
  • Assist the class teacher in preparing and adapting learning materials.
  • Support students with additional needs, including those with EHCPs.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment.
  • Monitor and report on student progress to teaching staff.
  • Help maintain good classroom behaviour and promote student engagement.
  • Work flexibly across different classes and year groups as needed.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people in an educational setting is desirable..
  • A calm, resilient, and empathetic approach to supporting students with additional needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • A commitment to promoting high standards of support and inclusion.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
