Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)
Location: Sheffield
Salary: £86 - £100 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a nurturing school environment in Sheffield. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who are passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children and young people with diverse learning needs.

About the Role:

In this position, you will work closely with teaching staff and the school’s SENCO to provide one-to-one and group support for students with special educational needs. Your role will involve adapting learning materials, implementing intervention strategies, and encouraging pupils' independence and self-esteem within a structured and caring setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer one-to-one and small group support to students with a range of SEN, including autism, ADHD, and speech and language difficulties.
  • Follow and help implement personalised learning and behaviour support plans.
  • Collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO to track progress and adjust support strategies.
  • Encourage pupil participation in classroom activities and school routines.
  • Foster a nurturing, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Promote social interaction and develop communication skills.
  • Manage behaviour calmly and support emotional regulation using positive approaches.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide feedback on pupil progress.

Job Requirements:

  • Prior experience supporting children or young people with SEN is highly desirable.
  • A positive, empathetic, and resilient attitude.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding procedures and child protection.
  • Good literacy, numeracy, and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to changing needs.
  • A relevant qualification in education or SEN support is advantageous but not essential.
  • Understanding of various Special Education Needs conditions, including autism and ADHD, etc.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
