Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant - Theatre Specialist
Location: Tonbridge
Salary: £88.94 per day
Start: Immediate
Contract: Day-to-Day/Long-Term, Full-time/Part-time
GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant with experience in theatre or theatre education to join a vibrant and supportive SEN school based in Tonbridge. This is a unique opportunity to bring performance-based methods into the classroom and support students in building confidence, communication skills, and emotional awareness.
About the Role:
This SEN TA role will involve working with pupils who have a variety of complex learning needs. Your theatre background will play a central role in helping to deliver creative interventions, emotional support, and imaginative approaches to learning.
Responsibilities:
- Support individual and small group learning with a creative, theatre-based approach.
- Help students develop communication, social interaction, and self-expression through performance-based activities.
- Assist teachers in planning and delivering creative learning sessions.
- Contribute to a calm, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Work closely with the SENCO and class teacher to tailor support strategies.
- Monitor and report pupil progress and behaviour.
- Encourage independence, confidence, and communication skills among students.
Job Requirements:
- CACHE Level 2 or 3 or NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Teaching Assistance or Childcare is highly desirable.
- Must have a background in theatre teaching, performance, or drama education.
- Previous experience as a SEN Teaching Assistant, or a similar support role in a classroom or school setting, is preferred.
- Patience, adaptability and a genuine commitment to supporting students' growth.
- Understanding of various Special Educational Needs conditions, including autism and ADHD etc.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
