Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant (Activity Instructors Background)
Location: Ashford
Salary: £88.94 per day
Start: Immediate
Contract: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

GSL Education looks for a SEN Teaching Assistant with a background in activity instruction to join our innovative team in Ashford.

This role offers the opportunity to utilise your leadership and organisational skills to support students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), fostering their confidence and engagement through structured activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualised support to students with special educational needs, including those with physical disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and speech and language difficulties.
  • Assist in the implementation of Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs) by adapting learning materials and strategies to meet each student's unique needs.
  • Utilise your activity instruction skills to create engaging and interactive learning experiences that cater to various learning styles.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and parents to monitor student progress and adjust support strategies accordingly.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that promotes positive behaviour and emotional well-being.
  • Support students' personal care needs, including mobility assistance, feeding, and toileting, ensuring their comfort and dignity.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as an activity instructor, particularly with children or young people with special needs.
  • Understanding of various SEN conditions, including ASD, ADHD, and physical disabilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families.
  • Patience, empathy, and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Willingness to undergo enhanced background checks, as required for working with children and vulnerable adults.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 3, SEN TA training) are desirable.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
