Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant (Nurse Background)
Location: Ashford
Salary: £88.94 per day
Start: Immediate
Contract: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time
Are you a compassionate nurse seeking a new challenge? GSL Education are looking for a SEN Teaching Assistant with a nursing background to support students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in Ashford. Your clinical skills and empathetic nature will be invaluable in creating a nurturing educational environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Personalised Student Support: Offer tailored assistance to students with special educational needs, including those with physical disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and speech and language difficulties, ensuring they can engage fully in the learning process.
- Implementation of Education Plans: Collaborate with educators to adapt learning materials and strategies, aligning with each student's unique requirements as outlined in their Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Assistance with Personal Care: Provide support with personal care tasks such as mobility, feeding, and toileting, maintaining students' comfort and dignity at all times.
- Collaborative Monitoring and Feedback: Work closely with teachers, therapists, and parents to track student progress, offering insights and adjusting support strategies to meet evolving needs.
- Creation of an Inclusive Environment: Contribute to a classroom atmosphere that promotes safety, inclusivity, and active participation, encouraging positive behavior and emotional well-being.
- Utilisation of Communication Aids: Employ tools such as PECS, Makaton, or other communication aids to facilitate effective interaction and learning for students with communication challenges.
Requirements:
- Previous experience as a nurse, particularly with children or young people with special needs.
- Understanding of various SEN conditions, including ASD, ADHD, and physical disabilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families.
- Patience, empathy, and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Willingness to undergo enhanced background checks, as required for working with children and vulnerable adults.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 3, SEN TA training) are desirable.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
