GSL Education are currently inviting applications for a passionate and nurturing SEN Learning Mentor to support children with Special Educational Needs in a full-time, permanent capacity. This role is based in Weymouth and offers an immediate start.

About the School

Operating across two distinct yet connected sites, this unique setting offers both primary and secondary pathways for pupils unable to access mainstream education. With a strong emphasis on life skills, vocational learning, and personalised support, it enables students to re-engage with their education and envision a brighter future.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop trusting, one-to-one relationships with pupils requiring targeted support.
  • Help students overcome barriers to learning both in and out of the classroom.
  • Use tailored behaviour management techniques and emotional coaching strategies.
  • Collaborate with class teachers and SENCOs to implement individual support plans (EHCPs).
  • Promote pupil independence and self-confidence through structured mentoring.
  • Support attendance, punctuality, and engagement in school activities.

Job Requirements:

  • Proven experience working with children or young people with SEN, particularly those with social, emotional, or behavioural needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Calm, resilient, and empathetic personality.
  • A sound understanding of safeguarding, SEND strategies, and inclusive practices.
  • Ability to build rapport and establish positive working relationships with both pupils and staff.
  • Relevant training or qualifications in education, youth work, or counselling would be advantageous.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
