Are you passionate about supporting students in their educational journey?

GSL Education are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a dynamic school in Dorchester. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a difference in students' lives by helping them access the curriculum, build confidence, and achieve their full potential.

The School: The school encompasses two sites in Dorchester with one common shared purpose: to provide the very best in education and support for all children who (for a variety of reasons) find themselves outside of mainstream school education. The school is an alternative provision that uses vocational and extracurricular methods to enable the students to gain functional and life skills. With a primary and secondary division, the school is inclusive of all ages and abilities and strives to give its pupils the best possible opportunities for post 16 life.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with additional needs, helping them engage with learning both academically and emotionally.
  • Mentor and motivate students who are outside of mainstream education, encouraging positive behaviour, confidence, and personal development.
  • Support vocational and extracurricular activities, helping pupils gain practical life skills and prepare for opportunities beyond age 16.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and external professionals to create personalised support strategies and learning plans.
  • Promote inclusion and a safe, respectful environment, where every pupil feels valued and supported regardless of background or ability.
  • Monitor student progress and wellbeing, offering regular feedback and guidance to both staff and pupils to ensure continued growth.

Candidate Expectations:

  • Experience working with children or young people who face barriers to mainstream education, including those with SEMH, SEN, or behavioural challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal and mentoring skills, with the ability to build trust and motivate pupils from diverse backgrounds and with varying needs.
  • Understanding of alternative education approaches, particularly vocational and extracurricular methods that promote independence and life skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff, support teams, and external agencies to develop and implement tailored support strategies.
  • Commitment to inclusivity, empathy, and safeguarding, ensuring a nurturing, respectful, and supportive environment for all students.
  • Flexibility and resilience, with a proactive attitude to adapt to the individual needs of pupils in both primary and secondary settings.
  • Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
