Job Title: Disability Teaching Assistant
Location: Poole
Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 per hour (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are inviting applications for the position of Disability Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive school community in Poole. Working closely with teaching staff and SEN professionals, you will help create a nurturing and accessible learning environment that empowers every student to engage confidently in school life.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Support students with moderate to severe learning difficulties in accessing the curriculum, ensuring everyone’s needs are met with patience and care.
  • Assist in the delivery of lessons and enrichment activities, adapting materials and approaches to promote inclusion, engagement, and understanding.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and therapists to implement personalised education and support plans that align with students’ academic and developmental goals.
  • Encourage student participation in therapeutic sessions, including those in hydrotherapy pools, multi-sensory rooms, and specialised therapy environments.
  • Promote student independence and confidence, offering guidance in social, emotional, and self-care skills through daily routines and structured activities.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and nurturing learning space, upholding safeguarding and health & safety standards across all areas of school life.

Candidate Expectations:

  • Experience or a genuine interest in working with students with moderate to severe learning difficulties, ideally within a school or care setting.
  • A compassionate and respectful approach, committed to supporting the personal growth, confidence, and independence of every student.
  • Willingness to engage in a wide range of activities, including hydrotherapy, sensory sessions, and enrichment programmes tailored to individual needs.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, essential for collaborating closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to follow personalised education and care plans and respond to changing needs throughout the day.
  • Understanding of or willingness to learn safeguarding, health & safety, and confidentiality procedures, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
