Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)
Location: Lytchett Minster
Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 per hour (Depending on experience)

Contract Type: Full-time/Permanent

GSL Education are welcoming applications for a committed and empathetic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in Lytchett Minster. This full-time, permanent role is available for an immediate start, offering a unique opportunity to support children and young people with a range of SEN including autism, learning difficulties, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

About the Role:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with individual pupils and small groups, supporting their academic development, emotional wellbeing, and personal growth. You’ll collaborate with teachers, therapists, and support staff to provide consistent, high-quality care and tailored learning interventions in a nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to pupils with SEN, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Assist with the implementation of EHCPs and individual learning plans.
  • Promote emotional regulation and encourage positive behaviour through a calm and structured approach.
  • Support communication and social interaction, using tools such as PECS, Makaton, or visual schedules where appropriate.
  • Help pupils build independence, confidence, and resilience through consistent guidance.
  • Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.

Job Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN, particularly autism, MLD, or SEMH, is essential.
  • Calm, adaptable, and empathetic nature with a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and inclusive education practices.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or care (e.g. CACHE, NVQ, or similar) are beneficial but not required.
  • Commitment to full-time hours and long-term engagement within a specialist provision.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
