GSL Education are welcoming applications for a dedicated and empathetic Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join a supportive and inclusive educational setting in Wareham. This is a full-time, permanent position with an immediate start, ideal for someone passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of children with additional needs.
About the Role:
As a Special Educational Needs TA, you will play an essential role in the academic and personal development of pupils requiring tailored support. You will assist both in and out of the classroom to promote engagement, confidence, and independent learning, while also contributing to a safe and nurturing learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 or small group support for students with SEN, adapting learning tasks to suit individual needs.
- Implement behaviour management strategies and sensory regulation techniques as required.
- Assist with the development and delivery of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Support communication and social interaction through visual aids, structured routines, or alternative communication methods.
- Build positive relationships with pupils to promote self-esteem and resilience.
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to deliver inclusive education.
Job Requirements:
- Experience working with individuals with SEN, disabilities, or complex needs.
- Understanding of Autism, ADHD and SEMH needs and how to implement effective support strategies.
- Knowledge of communication techniques such as PECS, Makaton, or alternative communication methods (desirable but not essential).
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (preferred but not mandatory).
- Strong empathy, patience and resilience in managing behavioural and emotional challenges.
- University students and fresh graduates are encouraged to apply – this is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in SEN education.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
