Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Bovington  
Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 per hour (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are inviting applications for a committed and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a highly supportive school environment in Bovington on a full-time, permanent basis, with an immediate start available.

This is a rewarding opportunity to work with young people who experience social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges, and who require consistent guidance, patience, and emotional support to succeed both academically and personally. You will be part of a collaborative and trauma-informed team dedicated to transforming lives through education.

Your Responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide consistent emotional and academic support to students with SEMH needs.
  • Promote engagement, self-regulation, and resilience through structured interventions.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and nurturing classroom environment.
  • Implement personalised support plans, behaviour strategies, and therapeutic approaches.
  • Liaise with teachers, SENCo, and external professionals to support holistic student development.
  • Actively participate in staff briefings, CPD, and debriefs as part of a united support team.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs is essential.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices or de-escalation strategies (e.g. Team Teach) is advantageous.
  • Resilient, empathetic, and emotionally intelligent approach to working with vulnerable learners.
  • Ability to build rapport and trust while maintaining consistent boundaries and expectations.
  • Full-time availability and a genuine desire to support pupils with additional social and emotional needs.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
