Job Title: SEN Secondary Teaching Assistant (TA)
Location: Chesterfield
Salary: £100 - £110 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Day-to-Day/Long-Term, Full-time/Part-time

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a SEN Secondary Teaching Assistant to work in a dynamic and inclusive secondary school in Chesterfield. This role offers a unique opportunity to work with young people who have additional needs, helping them to succeed both in and out of the classroom.
Role Overview:
As a SEN Secondary Teaching Assistant (TA), you will support students across Key Stages 3 and 4 with a range of special educational needs including autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language challenges, sensory needs, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with diverse SEN needs across core and optional subjects.
- Assist in the preparation and delivery of tailored learning activities and interventions.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation, social skills development, and self-esteem building.
- Manage challenging behaviours using effective de-escalation and positive reinforcement techniques.
- Monitor and record student progress and behaviour, reporting observations to relevant staff.
- Help maintain an inclusive and supportive learning environment in line with the school’s values.
- Support transitions between lessons and guide during unstructured times (e.g. breaks/lunchtime).
- Be available to travel across the site or to other locations as required for off-site support.
Job Requirements:
- A full UK driving license is required, as off-site support may involve travel to external educational provisions.
- Previous experience supporting young people with SEN in a secondary school or similar environment.
- Strong understanding of a range of SEN conditions and support strategies for secondary-age learners.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to form positive relationships with students while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Calm, adaptable and resilient in challenging situations.
- A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
