Complex Needs Support Worker
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: £83 – £100 per day
GSL Education are seeking a Complex Needs Support Worker to work at a Client Secondary school for students with additional needs in York, starting as soon as possible.
About the School:
- With an emphasis on SEN children, this school is for secondary aged students, aged from 11 - 19 years which aims to provide SEN students and staff with exceptional standards of care and education.
- Every student at the School has a learning disability, and some of them also require extra special education services due to physical or sensory needs.
- The school provides its students with a customized, individualized curriculum that is in line with their needs and goals and closely related to the outcomes listed in each child's Education, Health, and Care Plan.
- The school's comprehensive curriculum provides teachers with a list of options of accessible and relevant topics to help students develop what is relevant to them and their identified EHCP broad areas of need.
- The curriculums at the school have been created after four years of intensive research into SEND as well as visits, research, and interactions with exceptional settings.
- One of the main goals of the school is to prepare students for adulthood.
Complex Needs Support Worker Responsibilities:
- Provide consistent 1:1 and group-based support to students with complex needs.
- Collaborating with the students, family and relevant partied to develop and implement a student centred service plan to meet their social, emotional and developmental needs.
- Assist in the personal care of students whenever required.
- Working with the class teachers to develop sensory, speech, language, and communication needs.
- De-escalate challenging behaviour using therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches.
- Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.
Complex Needs Support Worker Requirements:
- A relevant qualification in education, health, or social care (e.g., Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Health & Social Care) is desirable.
- Experience supporting children or young adults with complex needs, such as ASC, PMLD, SEMH, or physical disabilities.
- Calm, patient, and emotionally resilient with a genuine passion for working with young people with SEN.
- Experience in using assistive technologies or communication tools is a plus.
- Hold a DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
