PMLD Teaching Assistant

Location: York, North Yorkshire

Salary: £83 - £100 per day

Start Date: ASAP

GSL Education are seeking a PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties) Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated team in a Client Secondary school that caters for students aged 11–19 with a range of additional needs, located in York, North Yorkshire starting as soon as possible.

About the School:

  • With an emphasis on SEN children, this school is for secondary aged students, aged from 11 - 19 years which aims to provide SEN students and staff with exceptional standards of care and education.
  • Every student at the School has a learning disability, and some of them also require extra special education services due to physical or sensory needs.
  • The school provides its students with a customized, individualized curriculum that is in line with their needs and goals and closely related to the outcomes listed in each child's Education, Health, and Care Plan.
  • The school's comprehensive curriculum provides teachers with a list of options of accessible and relevant topics to help students develop what is relevant to them and their identified EHCP broad areas of need.
  • The curriculums at the school have been created after four years of intensive research into SEND as well as visits, research, and interactions with exceptional settings.
  • One of the main goals of the school is to prepare students for adulthood.

PMLD Teaching Assistant Requirement:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with PMLD, complex needs or medical conditions in a school or care setting.
  • Experience with personal care and/or moving & handling is highly desirable.
  • Qualifications in Health & Social Care, Supporting Teaching and Learning, or similar are advantageous but not essential.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • A caring and resilient attitude.
  • Hold a Child Only DBS registered to the Update Service, or be willing to apply for one with GSL Education 

PMLD Teaching Assistant Responsibilities: 

  • Support students with personal care, including toileting, feeding, mobility, and hygiene needs.
  • Assist with manual handling and use of mobility aids.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and therapists.
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support.
  • Help deliver creative, sensory, and therapeutic activities.
  • Ensure a safe, calm, and respectful classroom environment.
