Primary Specialist Learning Support Assistant (LSA)

Salary: £95 - £100 per day (Depending on Experience)

GSL Education are currently recruiting a Primary Specialist Learning Support Assistant for a highly respected SEN school in Chesterfield. This full-time position offers a daily pay rate of £95–£100 and requires a driver due to the potential need for travel to support pupils during off-site learning and transport.

As a Primary Specialist Learning Support Assistant, you will work with young pupils (aged 4–11) who have a variety of special educational needs, including autism (ASC), speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges. Your role will be key in helping them access education in a way that works for them, creating a safe, engaging, and structured learning environment.

Responsibilities of the Primary Specialist Learning Support Assistant:

  • Deliver focused 1:1 or small group support, tailored to the needs outlined in pupils’ Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to implement personalised learning and behaviour strategies.
  • Support children in developing essential life skills, emotional regulation, and positive communication.
  • Participate in sensory and therapeutic activities within the classroom setting.
  • Escort and assist pupils during off-site trips and community learning opportunities.
  • Record and report on pupil progress, engagement, and wellbeing.
  • Uphold school policies and reinforce consistent behaviour expectations using a nurturing approach.

Skills & Qualification:

  • Experience working with children with SEN, particularly in a primary or specialist setting.
  • A valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential).
  • A calm, empathetic approach, and the ability to support challenging behaviour.
  • Knowledge of autism, SEMH, and other learning difficulties.
  • Team player with strong communication skills and a proactive attitude.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
