Specialist Learning Support Assistant (LSA)

Salary: £95 - £100 per day (Depending on Experience)

GSL Education are looking for a dedicated and empathetic Specialist Learning Support Assistant to join a respected SEN school in High Peak. This full-time opportunity offers a daily rate of £95–£100 and is ideal for individuals who are confident drivers, as the role may include off-site learning and transport support.

In this role, you will provide essential support to pupils aged 4–19 with a range of complex needs, including autism, communication challenges, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) difficulties. Working alongside experienced staff, you will help build a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment where each student can flourish both academically and personally.

Responsibilities of the Specialist Learning Support Assistant:

  • Deliver personalised 1:1 or small group support for students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Help implement customised learning plans alongside the class teacher to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Encourage and guide pupils in building communication skills, emotional resilience, and greater independence.
  • Take an active role in classroom engagement, including sensory-based activities and therapeutic interventions.
  • Accompany students on educational outings and assist with transport arrangements when required.
  • Keep detailed logs of student progress, behaviour, and wellbeing to support ongoing development.
  • Foster a calm, respectful learning environment by reinforcing positive behaviour strategies in line with school expectations.

Skills & Qualification:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN (essential).
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting behaviour and communication.
  • Must be a driver with access to a vehicle (essential).
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Relevant training (e.g., Team Teach, Autism Awareness) is desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
