Specialist Learning Support Assistant (LSA)
Location: Chesterfield
Salary: £95 - £100 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

GSL Education seeks a caring Specialist Learning Support Assistant to work in a well-established SEN school in Chesterfield, supporting pupils with complex additional needs. This full-time role, offering £95 – £100 per day, requires a confident driver due to potential off-site activities and transport duties.

As a Specialist Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with pupils aged 4–19 with a range of Special Educational Needs, including autism, communication difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health needs. You will play a vital role in creating a structured, inclusive, and nurturing environment that enables every learner to thrive.

Responsibilities of the Specialist Learning Support Assistant:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 or small group support for pupils with EHCPs.
  • Assist in delivering individualised education programmes under the guidance of teaching staff.
  • Support pupils in developing emotional regulation, communication, and independence.
  • Contribute to classroom activities, sensory integration, and therapeutic routines.
  • Escort pupils during community-based learning or transport when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Promote positive behaviour in line with school policies and training.

Skills & Qualification:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN (essential).
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting behaviour and communication.
  • Must be a driver with access to a vehicle (essential).
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Relevant training (e.g., Team Teach, Autism Awareness) is desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
