Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)
Location: Hayling Island
Salary: £13.68 to £14.88 per hour (Depending on experience)
Start: Immediate
Contract: Day-to-Day/Long-Term, Full-time/Part-time

You will play a vital part in ensuring pupils feel supported, encouraged, and capable of engaging in the school day with confidence and consistency.

About the Role:

This SEN Teaching Assistant role involves working closely with pupils who have a range of complex learning difficulties,, including autism (ASC), speech and language needs, ADHD, and sensory processing challenges. You may be placed in a 1:1 role or within small nurture groups depending on school needs and your experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 or small-group support for pupils with identified SEN, following EHCP targets.
  • Implement sensory, communication and behaviour-support strategies with consistency and care.
  • Collaborate closely with SENCOs, therapists, teachers and pastoral teams to ensure a holistic approach to student development.
  • Encourage positive routines, foster independence, and model appropriate emotional regulation.
  • Record daily progress, raise concerns where necessary, and celebrate pupil achievements.
  • Support pupils both in and out of class, including during unstructured times such as break or lunchtime.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN, either in education, care or youth settings.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, health & social care, psychology, or similar (Level 2 or above desirable).
  • Confidence supporting children with autism, ADHD, SEMH or communication difficulties.
  • A calm, nurturing demeanour and ability to remain composed under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with pupils and staff alike.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
