Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)
Location: Fareham
Salary: £13.68 to £14.88 per hour (Depending on experience)
Start: Immediate
Contract: Day-to-Day/Long-Term, Full-time/Part-time

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a committed SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) for a supportive secondary school in Fareham, with an immediate start available. This role is ideal for individuals considering a future in education, educational psychology, counselling, or therapeutic services.

About the Role:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teachers, pastoral staff, and the SENCO to provide individualised support to students with special educational needs. These may include Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Speech and Language Difficulties, Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), and other learning challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEN across different year groups.
  • Assist with academic tasks, emotional regulation, and classroom inclusion strategies.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to implement Education Health Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Promote engagement and confidence through structured routines and positive reinforcement.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to the SENCO and classroom teachers.
  • Ensure pupil safety and uphold school safeguarding procedures at all times.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN, either in schools, care settings, or through voluntary work.
  • A calm and empathetic demeanour with the ability to build trusting relationships.
  • Strong communication skills and adaptability when responding to diverse pupil needs.
  • A relevant qualification (such as CACHE Level 2/3, Teaching Assistant Diploma, or Psychology degree) is advantageous.
  • An understanding of a range of additional needs, including ASD and SEMH.
  • Relevant education or SEN-related qualifications are advantageous.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
