Job Title: Academic Support for Secondary
Location: Romsey, Hampshire
Salary: £12.82 per hour
Start Date: September 2025
Contract Type: Full-Time/Permanent (Part-Time can be arranged for the right candidate)

GSL Education are looking for a motivated and supportive individual to join a welcoming secondary school in Romsey, Hampshire as an Academic Support. This role is ideal for university students, graduates, or experienced teaching assistants who are keen to provide vital academic support in a school setting.
In this role, you will work closely with teachers and students to ensure every learner receives the academic assistance they need. Whether supporting in the classroom or delivering targeted interventions, your role will help students progress with confidence and enthusiasm.
Key Responsibilities of a Secondary Academic Support:
- Support students in lessons across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5
- Deliver focused one-to-one or small group academic interventions
- Collaborate with teaching staff to modify lesson content and materials
- Help monitor student progress and provide feedback to staff
- Foster a calm and productive learning environment
- Encourage students to build confidence and improve independence in learning
Academic Support Candidate Requirements:
- Previous experience in education or working with young people as an Academic Support is desirable
- CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ in Childcare or Teaching Assistance, or a relevant degree preferred
- Current university students pursuing degrees or graduates in Education, Psychology, or related fields are encouraged to apply.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A caring, patient, and encouraging approach to student support
- Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one
