GSL Education are offering an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Teaching Assistant (SEN) to support students with diverse learning needs in primary and secondary schools across Newcastle. This role is ideal for those considering a career in teaching, educational psychology, or therapy.
As a Graduate Teaching Assistant (SEN), you’ll work closely with teachers and SENCOs to support students with a range of needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health challenges.
Responsibilities of the Graduate Teaching Assistant (SEN):
- Providing one-to-one and small-group support for students with SEN.
- Assisting teachers in delivering tailored lessons that meet individual learning needs.
- Helping students develop confidence, independence, and key skills.
- Creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
- Monitoring progress and sharing feedback with teachers and parents.
- Supporting students during breaks, lunchtime, and transitions.
Requirements of the Graduate Teaching Assistant (SEN):
- A degree in Psychology, Education, Child Development, or a related field (or equivalent).
- Experience working with children or young people, ideally in education or care.
- A passion for supporting students with Special Educational Needs.
- Understanding of autism, ADHD, and other SEN conditions.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships.
- Ability to work well as part of a team and follow guidance from teachers.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- An enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one.
