Job Title: Primary SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)

Salary: £86 - £100 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2025
Contract: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

GSL Education are pleased to present a fulfilling opportunity for a Primary SEN Teaching Assistant to join a nurturing and inclusive primary school in Sheffield, commencing in September. With a competitive daily rate of £86 to £100, this role is ideal for candidates who are committed to supporting the diverse needs of pupils and ensuring they thrive both emotionally and academically.

About the Role:

In this role, you will support children with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN), such as autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and moderate learning difficulties. Working closely with teachers and SENCOs, you will help deliver personalised learning and pastoral support, ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 or small group support to pupils with additional needs, helping them engage with learning.
  • Implement and review strategies set out in Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Foster a safe, encouraging, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Assist the class teacher in adapting resources and lesson content for individual pupils.
  • Support emotional regulation and behaviour management using positive reinforcement strategies.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external professionals to ensure consistency of support.
  • Monitor student progress and keep detailed records of interventions and outcomes.
  • Supervise and support children during non-classroom times, such as break or lunch, when required.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience supporting pupils with SEN, particularly in a primary setting, is highly desirable.
  • A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach to supporting children with diverse needs.
  • Strong understanding of common SEN conditions and the ability to apply strategies that meet individual needs.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • A relevant Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (preferred but not essential).
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
