Job description

SEN Teaching Assistant

Salary Scale: £14.24 to £15.33 per hour

Start Date: ASAP

Location: Southampton near Hedge End

Are you passionate about supporting children and helping them achieve things they never thought possible?

We’re looking for enthusiastic, caring and resilient Teaching Assistants to join a brand-new specialist school in Southampton near Hedge End, supporting children and young people with special educational needs (SEN).

Having opened in September 2026, the school is at the start of an exciting journey, growing into a state-of-the-art, 125-place academy for pupils aged 9–16 over the next three years. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing team and help shape a positive, supportive learning environment from the very beginning.

What makes this role rewarding?

As a Teaching Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in helping pupils build confidence, develop independence and overcome challenges. From celebrating small milestones to providing encouragement when it’s needed most, your support can make a lasting difference to a young person’s life.

We’re looking for people who bring:

  • A genuine passion for supporting children with SEN.

  • Patience, resilience and a positive, energetic approach.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships.

  • A commitment to helping every pupil feel safe, valued and achieve their potential.

Experience in education, SEN, care or youth work is beneficial, but the right attitude and willingness to make a difference are just as important.

Join a team where your contribution matters, your relationships make a difference, and every day brings the opportunity to change a young person's future.
